Another week, another bottle of wine - Bordeaux edition

I hope you all had a great weekend. Here in Toronto we had some pretty spectacular weather. But enough about that, I'm here to talk about wine.  This week I have opened a Bordeaux.  I bought this bottle a little while ago in the vintages section at the LCBO, I believe with the thought of drinking it with some sort of braised meat (because that's what the bottle said to drink it with). I was really into braised meats (well still am), but never got around to drinking this bottle, so with a little help from my boy Charlie (that's right he helps pick out my wine, don't judge me) I decided to give this one a go.

(Which ever one he noses the most,I drink)

So like I said it is a Bordeaux, which is a French wine from the Bordeaux region. It is made by Maison Riviere Fils and named Chateau La Fontaine De Genin 2010.  It is an extra dry wine.

Now I know what you're saying, Kate the name isn't what one would call "fun" and nor is the label, but if I remember correctly, I was trying to be fancy in the vintages section and the gold shiny label caught my attention and it met the braised meat requirement. Now on to the review.

It has a deep fruity aroma and my first impressions of it was a bit too dry and harsh. To be honest the first couple of sips were ok and I thought that this may have been one my missteps in wine selecting. After a few more sips, it grew on me, it became a bit smoother and the berry notes started to come through. Now I am not the best at tasting the notes of spice and wood and smoke, but I can usually taste the hints of berry (well at least what I think tastes like berry) and this one had it. Overall it was a good glass of wine, and I'll have no problem finishing the bottle, but I probably wouldn't buy it again, but that's not to say it's a bad bottle, it's just not what I like. So if you are a fan of extra dry full bodied red wines you may enjoy it, but if you're into something a bit lighter you may want to skip it.

Cheers!
