Iceland - Reykjavik

(Statue of a Viking ship in Reykjavik down by the water)

Ok so I know this isn't technically one of my listed "hobbies" but it very well could be, and hey it's my blog I'll post what I want :)

Iceland is just about the perfect place, it's not too hot or too cold, the people are friendly and speak amazing English, the food is delicious (if you're a fan of lamb or fish you have to go here), the air is fresh, and the landscape is unlike anything I have ever seen. That's probably why the husband and I have been there 3 times in the 6 years we have been together.

(The big office tower off in the distance is where Hamborgarafabrikkan is)

The pictures above are all shots of Reykjavik taken from the top of the church (pictured below) Hallgrimskirkja. Definitely worth going up because you get some amazing panoramic views of the whole city.

You have to go to this little hot dog stand just off the main strip near the water (downtown). My advice get two with everything on them. It's unlike anything I have every had here and it seems to be pretty popular there.
(Just look at how happy I am)
(You can see the Harpa (concert hall) in the background)

So above you can see Harpa, which like I said, is the concert hall and below that is the Pearl. The Pearl houses five hot water tanks, but it also has a restaurant, a viewing deck, with amazing views of the city and a man made geyser.

Above I had mentioned that the office building contained a place called Hamborgarafabrikkan (sadly I do not have any photos, I guess we were just too excited to eat to stop and take a picture).  It is a really neat restaurant where they serve mainly burgers, but they are pretty awesome. I am partial to the Lamburger that they have, its smothered in a Bearnaise sauce and is just spectacular! And while you are there you have to try the Skyr cake.  It's like a cheesecake but smoother and moussier (maybe not a word, but it works for me). Trust me you will thank me later! Below I have some pictures of Skyr and Appelsin. Skyr is an Icelandic yogurt that is healthy and full of protein, so it's perfect for a quick breakfast or a mid-afternoon snack. It also comes with a handy spoon so you really can grab and go. I suggest trying the pear. I wasn't too keen on trying it, but it's surprisingly tasty and refreshing. Appelsin is an orange pop, I guess it's similar to the orange pops here in Canada, but not exactly the same and I'm not sure why. Just try it and hopefully you will enjoy it.  The Bonus bag in the background of that photo is one of the grocery stores in Iceland, reasonably priced food and it's got a crazy pig for a mascot so it's a winner in my books!

(Blueberry and Vanilla shown, you can see the little spoon folded up top)

Now I have plenty more to show and talk about when it comes to Iceland, so I am going to break this page up into several parts, otherwise it'll be way too long. But if you are thinking of going and need advice, just ask, or if you've already been and want to share, please do, I love talking to other Iceland enthusiasts!

 Góða ferð! (Happy Travels)
