Delica Kitchen - Way better than I expected!

So I know it's been a while since I've last blogged (Jan 1st, to be exact, so much for that New Years promise!), but hey, it's been a rough and cold winter and as much as I love food and telling you about it, I really haven't been up for going out (shocking, yes I know!) But I digress, this post is all about a fun little place I discovered called Delica Kitchen on Yonge St just south of St.Clair St on the West side. It was such a lovely day, a bit cold, but sunny, so I decided on taking a walk along Yonge, and thank goodness I did, because I would not have found this gem of a place otherwise.

(Such a cute little spot)

(The sign that drew me in)
Picture this, I'm walking along Yonge St with an Americano in hand (I got it from the Bakery Haus, but we will chat about that place in another post) and I'm starting to get a bit hungry. If any of you have ever been around Yonge and St.Clair, you'll know that there are a ton of places to eat. From Holy Chuck (which is a pretty awesome burger joint) to Carls Jr (I still haven't figured out the hype around, which I'm sure I will get flack for, but hey I'm going to go) the options are endless, so what made me go into Delica? The sign, I would have walked right past this place and never given it a second thought, if not for that sign. I am a sucker for brie cheese, I would eat it all day everyday if I allowed myself to, and roast beef, well that's just an added bonus! So my hats off to you Delica, you got me, but I'm glad you did!

Now let me explain the title, better than I expected, I went from a joyous feeling over the promise of brie to a bit of disappointment when I walked in, because all of the sandwiches were pre-made (fresh that day I'm sure, but still), and it was a bit off putting, I prefer my stuff to be made once I walk in, not just heated up, but, this place is going to be the exception for me (don't worry you'll find out why in a bit).

(All of the sandwich ready to be eaten!)

(Salads that looked pretty tasty)

(Treats, it was hard to resist buying something, but I already had a donut in my bag!!)

Above are the photos of the counter with all of the yummy looking items just waiting to be eaten. And just below are the shots from behind the counter. Just a heads up, there was a sign saying that the soup wasn't ready until 12pm (I was there around 11:30ish), but that was ok cause I wasn't in soup kind of mood, but just in case you are. I can definitely (fun fact, first time I've ever spelled definitely without having the red squiggle line underline it, go me!) see myself going back with a book and getting a coffee and eating the hell out of one of those homemade Oreos (far right) or the banana loaf (far left).

(Drinks galore)
(Cash register, not my bag though)

The place itself was pretty small. A couple of tables along the back wall, and a few more a bit farther back (see photos below).  It reminded me of a cute little cafe in Paris, it also had music, which I would think would be played in a Parisian cafe. The staff were very friendly (friendly staff is just as important as quality food, for me at least), it was very clean, and it had a very cozy feel to it. I was in and out pretty quick. They were having problems with their debit machine, luckily I had cash, so if and when you decide to go, either have cash or credit on you, just in case (it's always a good idea to have cash on you anyways for situations like that, you never know when it will happen, like for me at Target trying to buy a $12 t-shirt, but their debit machine declined my debit and credit card twice, despite having more than $12 in my account, no really I did, I went to the bank machine right after in a panic thinking my cards had been scammed, but it was Targets problem, but people judge you, they judge you hard, sorry had to get that off my chest)

Now onto the thing that we are all really here for, the food. So like I said, or at least hinted towards, I got the Roast Beef and Brie sandwich.  I gotta say, it was so much better than I thought, I really, really, really enjoyed it. The bread was fresh, with a nice crunchy crust, and a chewy, soft center.  The roast beef was cooked perfectly and sliced nice and thinly (or should I say shaved). There was pickled red onions, which I think really made the sandwich so fantastic, just a subtle hint of onion without the over-powering sting that you can get from having raw onion. They used a horseradish aioli, which I was a little nervous would be too spicy, but it wasn't at all, it was just a nice compliment to the roast beef. Also,  just for good measure, a bit of arugula, that added a nice hit of peppery greenier.  And then there was the brie, it was lovely, buttery, smooth and just a bit gooey, everything you want in a brie. Overall this sandwich was amazing, I will be going back to try some of their other offerings, like those mini banana loafs...yum! It gets my seal of approval, so go try it out!
(There it is!)
(An open shot)

Happy Eating!
