Rashers - It's a bacon restaurant, that is all you need to know!

Let me start off by wishing everyone a Happy New Year! My new years resolution is to go out to more amazing restaurants more often so that I can do my duty and report back to all of you. I couldn't think of a better way to kick off the new year and start my resolution than to tell you all about a restaurant who has decided to dedicate itself to one of the most magical, heart warming, taste bud tantalizing foods on the planet, BACON!! I, until about a year ago, was completely oblivious to the fact that places like this existed, and you better believe that I am now in the process of making up for lost time.

Rashers is the restaurant I am talking about, and I just gotta say, I am so very happy to be living in a world that includes this place. It's a  small place located on Queen St. East, but it's mighty (mighty tasty), and you can't miss it because of it's very stylish pops of red.

So let me set this place up for. You'll be walking down Queen St East, and you'll come upon some old school bright red school desks sitting outside the place. For me, that made me think that this place was fun, I like fun places. Once you've opened the front door your nose will be assaulted (in a good way) with the thick, meaty, smoky, bacony scent that most of us know and love. You'll walk up to the cash/desk where there are menus both on the wall and on the desk, and, once you've finally decided what to order, you will be just minutes away from some of the best bacon I have ever had. I find that the people who work there are pretty awesome, really friendly and hip looking. Ok,ok I know that commenting on the staffs style may be an odd thing to say, but to be able to pull off an all bacon restaurant I think that you need the right kind of staff with the right kind of attitude and style to make it work. Yes bacon is amazing, but it'll only get you so far. Basically what I am trying to say is I would be friends with these bacon loving people, they don't judge you (or at least it doesn't seem like they do) for ordering all bacon sandwiches or coming back 10 minutes later to order another one because the first one blew your mind so much you had to have another (don't tell my doctor).

Once you've ordered you will notice that the place has a minimalist, yet oh so snazzy style to it (yes I said snazzy). A mural on one wall of street car tracks (seen below) and the other wall has the wooden bar top and a few other pictures (also seen below, minus the pictures on the wall). It's very clean inside (it can't be easy to keep white clean in a bacon place). There are only about four or five seats inside, so if you're lucky you will get a seat (anytime I go, it's like the door never shuts because of the amount of people coming in and out, but it never feels crowded). I always opt to eat outside at one of the school desks, nothing better than fresh air, people watching and bacon.

Ok so now that I have covered the restaurant itself and the people who work in it, it's time to talk about the reason you are all here, the bacon. They have all sorts of bacon, smoky bacon, peameal bacon, British style bacon and even beer braised bacon. They also have sorts of combos they do with the bacon, you can have just bacon on a bun, bacon and cheese, BLT and so on and so on. My personal, absolute favourite is the bacon butty. It has the British style bacon on white bread slathered with home-made brown sauce, and my goodness is it ever good. The home-made brown sauce, well lest just say I could almost, almost drink it. It's so simple yet so delicious.

(Bacon sandwiches in all their glory)

So above is a small selection of the goodness that you can get from Rashers. I know they may look the same, but one is the bacon and brie (bottom) and one is the full monty (top). I would have had better, more in depth photos, but we were under attack from some very angry wasps (it was Thanksgiving weekend and you know how nasty those little flying needles can be especially when they know the cold weather is coming). The full monty has bacon (of course), egg, fried tomato and fried mushrooms on it. The bacon and brie has the bacon and brie and caramelized onions. I love brie and I love caramelized onions so I had to give it a go. Now I will warn you, the more stuff on the sandwich, the harder/messier they seem to be to eat. The cheese was all gooey and drippy and the onions just added to that. That being said it was still amazing and I regret nothing. The hubster ordered the full monty, and again messy to eat, but oh so tasty. I mean really, it would be pretty hard to mess up something so simple as a bacon sandwich. That being said, if you didn't use quality ingredients, like soft, fresh, fluffy bread, and salty, smoky bacon, you would mess it up big time. They also cook everything to perfection, the bacon just a touch chewy, the egg, just ever so slightly runny and any of their other topping are cooked to add to their flavour.

So there you have it, Rashers is the place to be when wondering around Queen St East, go, enjoy and thank me later!

Happy Eating!
