I am so very excited to be writing about this place! I will admit, I did not find this place, a friend posted on Instagram a pic of her donut, and I knew I had to check this place out (what a time we live in when you can track down food with your phone). This may be a bit pre-mature since I've only tried one donut from here, but my goodness was it ever good. I am heading back this week and will post an update of the other goodies I get (I'm coming for you cronut!)
Bakeryhaus has two locations, one on Queen St West, and the one I visited, on Yonge St, right across from Davisville subway station.
Let me set the scene for you, it's a pretty small shop, but when you open the door, your nose is romanced by the most amazing aroma of fresh baked goods. It's very narrow, but they use the space well. Right when you walk in there is a little bar with a couple of stools, just in case you can't wait to wolf down your treats.

A bit further in there is a very cute little cabinet that they use as a coffee station, for all your coffee needs.

Just a little bit further down is where the good stuff is. Lots of different pastries, donuts, and macarons, it's hard not to buy one of everything. Most of the pastries were sweet like chocolate croissants, but there were a few savory options (which I will be partaking in both in my next visit).
They also sold fresh bread, which looked just a delicious as the other options available, honestly though, I didn't really pay attention to the bread.

(Macarons!) |
It seems as though every bakery makes macarons nowadays, not a complaint, merely an observation. I also know what makes a good macaron, thanks to my trip to Butter Ave, so I should be able to tell if they are any good. If looks mean anything, then they probably are good!

(So many donuts) |
My favourite section of the counter, the donuts. Some were filled, some were dipped and some were sugar dusted. It was a very hard choice, which was made only harder when I was told that if I bought 6 I would get the 7th free. I was strong though, and only bought one.

I also ordered an americano, just because a) I love coffee and b) I felt like more of an adult getting a coffee and not just a donut. The americano was very good, hot, not too bitter, and a good hit of caffeine that I so desperately need to make it through my day.
My overall impression of this place was delightful. From the hit of sweet air when I walked in, to the attentive service I received from the very friendly girl working, to all the tasty looking morsels, how could I not be in love with this place. Don't worry, this post isn't over yet, I haven't even gotten to the best part yet, my donut review.
It was probably one the hardest decision I had to make, what to choose? I finely went with the Belgian chocolate covered donut. I wasn't sure what to expect, and it blew my mind. Never before have I ever tasted anything as magnificent as this donut. To start, the rich, but not too rich, creamy, smooth, Belgian chocolate layer snaps as you bite into it and it melts wonderfully in your mouth. Then the sweet, soft, and fluffy donut center, it was so fresh and amazing I have never had a donut like this before, and I'm going to say it, it is by far the best donut I have ever had in my life. Even with all that, I know I am still not doing it justice, it's something that you can't quite describe, you really, really, really just have to try it for yourself! I feel like there should be harp music playing and angels singing while you eat one of these.

So there you have it, my new happy place. I shouldn't even have to say it, it gets my stamp of approval, heck, maybe even a Kate trophy! Go, eat, enjoy, and thank me later (cause I know you will). And don't worry I am going back to try some more of the goodies and I will update you once I do!
