I'm just going to start this by saying I absolutely love Queen St W. The shops, the art galleries (anyone see the giant Bill Murray painting at Jessgo, it's pretty awesome, oh and Bill Murray if you are reading this my husband is a big fan), and the huge variety of restaurants makes this one of my top neighbourhoods to wander around. There are at least (and trust me this is a very conservative number) 20 restaurants that I want to try out, The husband and I strolled down Queen St the other night on our way to a hip and happening (yes I know I sound old, trying to sound young and yes I feel old saying "hip and happening") place called
Electric Mud BBQ. Believe me when I say, it was hard to not stop and eat at one of the many places we passed along the way, but luckily we were meeting up with someone so we had to go, and I am happy we did.

(Look at the graffiti, it's so colourful and alluring, it draws you right in) |
The restaurant itself is pretty small, and I can only imagine how crazy it must be to get a seat on a Friday or Saturday night (especially on the patio during patio season). Lucky for us this was a Wednesday night, and even though it was busy, we still managed to get a table for 3 right away. The patio tables are large picnic tables that are communal style and seat 6, which meant we were sharing it with other people. That being said our table friends were very nice (we did in fact share some of our fried chicken with them...we're good people), I mean really how could you not be friendly...good food, great weather and super tasty drinks, I would be shocked to find someone who would not be in a good mood.

(The restaurant in all it's glory!) |
The tables had the plates, and cutlery, and glasses and water on them already (in empty booze bottles, which I very much enjoyed), very much like picnic style eating. Our server was great, she was fast, and friendly, and did not judge us when ordered our third helping of fried chicken. The hubster and I both ordered a Clydesdale (see pic below), it had a good hit of bourbon at first, and then became very refreshing with the lime and grapefruit (almost a little too refreshing, like in the way where you stop tasting the bourbon and maybe kinda forget that it is an alcoholic drink, one that is to be respected and savoured instead of gulped). I liked it so much I ordered another one, while my hubby tried out the Bourbonade (bourbon + lemonade = bourbonade), also very good. Our friend opted for a Negra Modelo, which I personally have never tried (or even heard of), but perhaps next time I see it I will be trying it.

(Clydesdale...bourbonie goodness) |

(I am just now realizing that I could of had a pitcher of Clydesdale..next time!) |

(Small menu, but very well executed) |

(Crack rolls with that whipped, fluffy butter) |
To start we went with the crack rolls, I mean really how could you not order something called crack rolls. They are very true to their name, they came out warm and fluffy, with just a hint of toastiness. And the butter, oh don't get me started on that butter, I have no idea what was in it, but it was whipped into a sort of lighter than air mousse and had a bit of saltiness and smokiness to it, I'm almost ashamed to admit that I would probably be ok with just eating it with a spoon. So, so far we were impressed, good drinks, damn delicious crack rolls and butter, needless to say I was starting to get excited for the rest of the meal.
Myself and our friend got the fried chicken, apparently it's really good and on busy nights the run out (or so I'm told), she also got an order of the pork side ribs. The hubster went with the cowboy beef rib .

(A little plate of heaven) |
The fried chicken, sweet mother of pearl, was it ever good. Super crispy batter, that wasn't dripping with grease, and was seasoned just right, wonderfully tender and moist chicken, and a rather interesting gravy underneath. The gravy was good, it was a regular gravy with cider syrup and Tabasco, so just a touch of heat. I enjoyed it with my chicken, but I enjoyed it even more smothered on my heavily buttered crack roll. I can see why it's a favourite, and how the could sell out of it (we really did order 3 servings).

(Pork side rib) |
I love ribs, I really do. These ones were pretty good, smoky, a little bit of heat, moist and tender, oh and did I mention huge.

That bad boy (cowboy beef rib) was absolutely massive, I mean I know cows are big and hence forth their ribs will be big, but good lord I was not expecting that. This thing was amazing, super tender and moist, fall off the bone goodness. It was coated in a mustard BBQ sauce and had what I believe were fried shallots, that were really sweet. It was a bit fatty, but that just made the meat even better. It had a touch of smoke, and that BBQ sauce was very tasty. I would order this again for sure.

(I just really liked the look of the neon light) |

So all in all I really liked this place. Good food, good drinks, good weather and great company made for a pretty stellar, stomach stuffing, night. I give this place my stamp of approval. Hope you guys enjoy!
